School of Pharmacy
Creating Highly Professional Pharmacists and Scientists
The School of Pharmacy, the second school established by Kitasato University in 1964, is composed of the 4-year course in the Department of Pharmaceutical Life Sciences for educating personnel for research in drug discovery and the 6-year course in the Faculty of Pharmacy for training clinical pharmacists. The School is engaged in both basic research and practical education, and a special effort is made to form individuals with outstanding human qualities. On-site pharmacy practice is carried out principally at the four university-affiliated hospitals.
School of Veterinary Medicine
The Integrated Study of Animal Life Sciences
This School came into being through the progressive reorganization of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences at the Towada Campus, which has a history of over 40 years. It includes the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Animal Science and Department of Environmental Bioscience. With animal Life Science forming the foundation, and by strengthening cooperation between education and research, the School has greatly increased its range of activities, which now covers bioscience, the global environment and ecology.
School of Medicine
Superb Physicians with Outstanding Human Qualities
The school’s philosophy is to train excellent and humane physicians. Since its foundation the school has possessed its own unique organ-based comprehensive curriculum and promoted medical theses in which students, having chosen a theme, develop the technological expertise, motivation, thinking, composition skills, and so forth that are necessary to conduct relevant research. It is our aim to train physicians who possess a wide and deep systematic knowledge, solid technical skills, and rich clinical experience.
School of Marine Biosciences
Marine Bioscience as the Pioneer of the Next Age
Taking as its foundation the cutting-edge technology of life sciences as well as the thinking processes found in resource management and bio-production, the School of Marine Biosciences has gained a worldwide reputation for research and education in the field of living marine resources. In 2011, due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, the School moved the base of its operations from the Sanriku coast to Sagamihara, where it has fully incorporated practical training via the newly built education and research wing as well as the Sanriku Seaside Practice Facilities and similar facilities of outside organizations. As a result, the School is offering a richer quality of education and research than ever before.
School of Nursing
Education and Clinical Care Strengthen Nursing Skills
By keeping clinical experience and education closely connected, the School seeks to develop greater practical nursing skills and to train nursing specialists as well. The new educational courses in particular have a distinctive curriculum. It features a perspective focusing on the enhancement of the welfare of local residents by promoting health and preventing contagious diseases; the integration of related basic courses and nursing courses; and research abroad at UCLA and in Mongolia, reflecting our broadening international outlook.
School of Science
Basic Research in Life Sciences
The School of Science, home to the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, and Biosciences, clarifies various phenomena in the Life Sciences from a variety of angles at the molecular level. While each department pursues its own specialization, each also remains aware of its mutual relevance and acquires basic knowledge pertinent to many related fields. The result is the appearance of highly-adaptable scientists who can work well within all areas of science.
School of Allied Health Sciences
Training Paramedics and Health Promoting Staffs
